Power of attorney in the permit process
The authorisation under which an architect or another person acts before the authority for the client: files the application, receives letters and answers requests.
The power of attorney is filed with the case together with proof of stamp duty, unless an exemption applies, for instance for close family. A missing payment is one of the more common reasons for a request to supplement.
The principal sets the scope. A narrow authorisation covers only filing one application; a broad one covers running the whole case to the decision, receiving correspondence and answering requests. Separate matters, such as an access application and a permit application, usually need separate documents.
Where there are several clients, all of them grant the authorisation. With co-ownership, leaving one person out typically surfaces only at the request stage, weeks later.
